About History & BackgroundAl-Jazeera FZCo. History goes back to 1972, when Mr. Mazin Ayass, its major contributor, established his first and own tire store, dealing in several local and international PC tire brands. At that time, and till 1988, private imports to the Iraqi market were not allowed. All imports were channeled through the Iraqi government, and the company was forced to work under the government’s ceiling. During this period, the company went through a series of corporate identity changes but remained focused on its main business field, working in tires, batteries and spare parts trading.After 1988, the Iraqi government Allowed public imports, and a new company was established. This new company gained a large market share in the Iraqi market and especially Baghdad, and was growing at a very promising rate, until the Gulf war in 1990. Due to forced sanctions and embargos on Iraq, the company’s business, after the war, entered a period of slow growth, and the Iraqi economy was relatively weak and fragile. During this difficult time, the company managed to gradually increase its market share, and preserve its reputation, in being one of the elite, if not the first, company in tires and batteries trading in the Iraqi market. In that same period, between 1990 and 1996, the company depended on imports through Dubai (UAE) and Aqaba (Jordan), taking the risk of shipping under no insurance, and no guarantees in order to maintain its market share, and volume of sales.In 1996 the company’s vision was to establish new markets in Jordan, Kuwait and UAE, in addition to the main Iraqi market. Following that objective, Al-Jazeera Trading FZCo. was established in 2001.Between 1996 and 2003, The company managed to be the biggest tire importer and distributor in the Iraqi market, and among leading dealers in Dubai, Lebanon and Jordan, with sales volumes between 30 and 35 million US dollars per year.After the American invasion to Iraq in 2003, the company’s business in Iraq grew exponentially, reaching a sales volume of 52 million US dollars in 2005. As the political situation in Iraq deteriorated in 2006 and 2007, most companies were forced to exit the Iraqi market, small companies diminished while other companies were forced to shift their operations outside of Iraq. Al-Jazeera’s management had a different approach; the company remained in the Iraqi market, and started to explore new business opportunities in the region. Logistics Business

Established in 2000, Al-Jazeera’s “In-Land” transportation business started in Kuwait under its subsidiary Al-Mailem Transportation Co. The company had a deeper vision to create an integrated transportation network to serve Iraq, UAE, Jordan and Kuwait.

Building on that vision and its expertise in the Kuwaiti market, the company adopted a business model that is based on quality and flexibility, and expanded its business into Iraq, Dubai and Jordan. It also runs its own warehouses and Logistics center in Iraq under the name of “Al-Dyar Transportation Co.”. Today the company owns more than 70 Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks and is planning to expand to 100 units in 2010-2011.

Hotel Business

As part of its investment diversification policy, Al-Jazeera Trading currently owns more than 25% of AL-Rakaez PLC, a Jordanian public shareholding company specialized in hotel and real-estate development. Al-Rakaez PLC will launch its first hotel in Jordan under the name of “Quality Suites” based on the franchise name of “Choice” in the first half of 2010.

The Hotel will provide numeral services including touristic services, restaurants, banqueting halls, a grand conference hall, a swimming pool, a health club and private parking among other facilities. The hotel is to be ranked at “4-stars A” serving Business & Commercial Visitors, Holiday and Recreational Tourists, Conference Delegates, Expatriate Jordanians and those who demand value for money.

Al Jazeera Trading attends Hankook Technical Training in South Korea

As part of Hankooks yearly distributor technical training program, Mr. Mustafa Al-Obaydi and Mr. Mustafa rustum have attended Hankook Technical training course in South Korea in December 2011, the training included Orientation, Claim inspection Theory, Claim inspection (Real Returned tire check), TBR basic Marketing and Service, Fleet Managing, Process of Advertisement and Guide, Tire Test Theory, Tire Building and Test Process along with Touring in Hankook Facilities. The training process is considered an integral part of Hankooks distributor development program which comes in line with Al Jazeera program of HR development and awareness.

Al Jazeera announces the launch of its new Showroom and Service Center in Kirkuk- Iraq.

As part of Al Jazeera POS expansion plans in Iraq, the first Modern Service Center and Retail sales facility has been launched in Kirkuk - Iraq on November 2011. The facility offers comprehensive tire sales and after sales services including tire fitment, alignment and balancing. Moreover the center offers light automotive services including oil, filter and brake changes. Furthermore, the showroom offers the majority of AL Jazeera tire product line-up for PC, SUV, 4x4, LT and TB vehicles. The facility is located in Kirkuks tire market and is considered the newest and most modern facility in Kirkuk Iraq.
